No Longer Associated...

If you've been following along with my blog for any length of time, you've probably seen a note something along the lines of:

I am an Amazon Associate and when you purchase something through this link I will receive a small bonus. This does not change your price at all, it just helps support what I'm doing on the Salty Zebra Blog.

Well, I'm writing today to tell you that I am no longer an Amazon Associate and links you see to products will, for the most part, not benefit me at all. I will still include referral links for credit cards and other services that give us both a benefit, but, alas, Amazon didn't pan out as a practical platform for The Salty Zebra Blog to realize income. I spent hours over the last year painstakingly researching products and pasting associate links in, then offering the obligatory language to inform you of such links. But over an entire year it only netted me a few cents. The only reason I was able to cash anything out at all was because my son signed up for an Amazon Prime account through my link which brought in enough to meet the minimum cash out.

Am I mad at Amazon? Not at all. Just turns out I'm not much of a product influencer. The program was not a good match for me, but I feel like I gave it a really good shot so I'm happy about that. I love Amazon. I order from them every week, sometimes more frequently. I'm even likely to write more posts about them in the future, I have a couple in the hopper already.

Here's the Thing: If you're a social media influencer with a daily audience of thousands or more who posts multiple times a day with lots of product placement and linking, you should totally be an Amazon Associate. If you're a blogger who likes to share her favorite products once or twice a month - there's really no point. You'll earn more on Swagbucks*!

*Yes, that's a Swagbucks referral link that'll get us each a bonus when you sign up. I like it a lot and I'll be writing a post about them soon!
