Christ is All I Need: Motivation

Your faith and love have arisen from the hope laid up for you in heaven, which you have heard about in the message of truth, the gospel  Colossians 1:5

What are your deepest motivations? Why do you do what you do? It may be as simple as the reason you get out of bed in the morning to the guiding principles of how you spend your time and money in this world. Are you just running on vibes, or do you have a set of principles and ideals that govern your choices?

I’m going to be completely honest here, my husband and I operate very differently in this area, and I think we complement each other because of it. You see, I’m kind of a “running on vibes” sort of person. When faced with a choice or decision, I’m most likely to lean towards what “feels” right. That’s my reason for getting out of bed in the morning, btw. It hurts too much to stay in it 😩. If I encounter an opportunity for giving or an invitation to an event, I do a heart check. I pray. I seek the Holy Spirit’s guidance for my life and resources, definitely including my time and energy. My husband has a different, more concrete tactic. He has a set of values by which he makes decisions and structures his life. The most recent value that has been added to that list, Simplicity. If the opportunity or decision would make his life more complicated, it’s pretty much a definite, “No.”

In our verse today, the Colossians are guided in their faith in Jesus Christ and their love for all of God’s people because of the hope laid up for them in heaven. Think about it. When you have your eyes on the big picture, God’s plan and His coordination of eternity, the small things don’t matter so much. Yeah, things didn’t go the way you wanted or expected them to with your project at work, but in the grand scheme of things, will it really matter? Will it maybe come out better in the long run because things didn’t go the way you expected? Yes, the diagnosis you heard from the doctor is difficult, but you are alive in Christ, forgiven and free. That matters SO MUCH MORE!!!

Here’s the Thing: Our faith and love arise from the hope we find in Jesus, in the truth that we are His forever. This is our primary motivator, our guiding principle, our reason for getting out of bed in the morning!
