For Such a Time as This

 This Monday, April 14th, marks the beginning of our new study, "For Such a Time as This." As you might guess, it's on the book of Esther. This is a book of the Bible that I've cherished and read countless times, and I am looking forward to what God has to teach me through it this year as well! That's one of the coolest things about God's Word, it is living and active:

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.  Hebrews 4:12 NIV

 What does that mean? Well, to me it means that every time I read a passage in God's Word, the Bible, no matter how many times I've read it before, there is something new for me to learn.  Perhaps it will be a new aspect that stands out to me, or something I've missed entirely before. An example of this in the last study was that as I read through Jonah, I started noticing all the times that God mentions animals. I had literally never seen that before in the many times I've read through and studied that book! The point here is, you can't say, "I've read the Bible," and have it be like a check mark in your completed column. Have you read the Bible today? Each time you read, with the accompaniment of the Holy Spirit, there is something new to take away. I mention the Holy Spirit because without Him, we are unable to truly understand the Bible:

The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. 1 Corinthians 2:14 NIV 

 So I would encourage you to open your mind and not say, "I've read Esther." Be excited for what God might have to teach you this time you read Esther! On that note, are you excited to learn with me?    This incredible trip has taught me so much, and I feel like I'm just beginning to unpack it. I Just Need a Little Help From My Friends...

TLDR, just want to donate So this is a difficult post to write, probably even more difficult than figuring out how to tell people I had a brain tumor. I HATE asking people for money, for help, for most anything really - except prayer, I'm pretty good at asking for that! Here's the thing, I don't NEED money. I'm not looking for donations for a huge fundraiser like the 3-Day (did that a long time ago). I'm not going on a mission trip. But I am doing something new, something I can't do without help. In this eye of the storm season I'm in, I've become positively obsessed with travel. The thing is, travel is expensive and while I could just spend our savings to do what I want, that wouldn't be great stewardship of our future and hopeful retirement.
