How Then Should We Now Live?

“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the honor both now and on that eternal day.” 2 Peter 3:18

People worry a lot about the end times, about the time to come. Sometimes they even worry about whether we are living in them now. I’m just not sure how that benefits them. You see, God placed us where we are, right here, right now. We are where we are supposed to be. The question is, are we doing what we are supposed to be doing?

If the world has not ended yet, which I’m pretty sure it hasn’t (unless this is all some crazy Matrix thing and then I give up), we are in a time of grace. It is by God’s grace that He hasn’t wrapped it all up and called His loved ones home, punishing those who so justly deserve it. And why would He do that? Because He loves us. Yes, He even loves those who have set themselves up as His enemies. He would call even them to come home. Because home is what He is. He is our beginning, our creator. It is from His love that we were initiated. Through the sin of others, and our own sin, we found ourselves apart from God, some violently so. Some claim apathy, they choose not to believe in “any god.” But deep in their hearts is a God shaped hole that will beg to be filled until they, come home. Some will seek to fill that hole with other gods, but you can’t put a round peg into a square hole, it just doesn’t match up. If all goes well, eventually they will hear the good news that there is a perfect fit for them, a God that loves them just as they are and already paid the price to bring them home.

So what are we to be doing in this time of grace, between the price being paid and the culmination of God sorting it all out? We are to live lives of grace, lives that reflect the love of our Savior, lives that draw others to Him.

Here’s the Thing: The whole point of this time is that God is not willing that any should perish but desires that all should come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9). Let's live in such a way that gives as many as possible that chance!
